Ny Ubuntu på vej: 7.10
Ubuntu, som er verdens for tiden mest populære GNU/Linux-distribution, er lige nu "ugens artikel" på dansk Wikipedia.
Her læser vi bl.a.:
Ubuntu (IPA: /u'buntu/) er en vidt udbredt Linuxdistribution, som er baseret på Debian GNU/Linux. Distributionen fokuserer i højere grad end Debian på brugervenlighed. F.eks. brugesPå Ubuntus egen hjemmeside læser vi tilsvarende om den filosofi, der ligger bag projektet:sudo-kommandoen ofte til administratoradgang, og Ubiquity-værktøjet gør det muligt at installere Ubuntu direkte fra dens live-cd. Derudover har Ubuntu også meget fokus på regelmæssigt at udgive nye versioner, nem installation og frihed fra juridiske restriktioner, og er hovedsageligt tiltænkt som et moderne frit styresystem til den gennemsnitlige computerbruger.Distributionens navn kommer fra zulu- og xhosa-begrebet ubuntu, der ikke har én præcis, alment anerkendt oversættelse, men som i hvert fald betegner en form for fællesskab. Ubuntus motto, Linux for Human Beings ("Linux for mennesker"), sammenfatter et af projektets primære mål – at gøre Linux nemmere at bruge.

Så hvis du overvejer at skifte, var det måske en idé at klikke forbi Ubuntus hjemmeside efter 18. oktober og downloade og brænde en prøve-CD - tiden har aldrig været bedre til det.
