There is, no doubt, a whole lot of celebrating going on today. For those more afraid of negotiations than of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, or any of that violent crew, a collapsing Palestinian Authority with Gaza in absolute chaos and with Mahmoud Abbas weakened almost to irrelevancy is a dream come true.

Gaza has fallen to Hamas. Abbas' Fatah is on the run. Unless a United Nations force (like UNIFIL) steps in, a sliver of territory with a population of 1.4 million, a short drive from Tel Aviv, will become a dagger aimed at Israel's heart and perhaps even an Al Qaeda staging ground. A humanitarian crisis of horrific proportions is a near-certainty.

Whose fault is it? The Palestinians', of course. But hardly theirs alone. As Nahum Barnea, Israel's finest journalist, puts it in today’s Yediot Ahronoth, "The US and Israel had a decisive contribution to this failure. The Americans, in their lack of understanding of the processes of Islamization in the territories, pressured [the Palestinians] to hold democratic elections and brought Hamas to power with their own hands…. Since the elections, Israel, like the US, declared over and over that 'Abu Mazen must be strengthened,' but in practice, zero was done for this to happen. The meetings with him turned into an Israeli political tool, and Olmert's kisses and backslapping turned Abbas into a collaborator and a source of jokes on the Palestinian street."
Once there was a "debate" (no real negotiations) about two states, Palestinian state and Israel. Today, there are "debates" about three of them.

Not defending Hamas, but all reports point to its militia to have violently seized control of Gaza as if Fatah militia (Dahlan’s to be in particular) are angles and clean handed. No one wants to believe the fact that all what is going there was well planed by Israel, Americans, corrupted Palestinian Authority and executed by Dahlan's militia.
Kawther Salam skriver i et andet indlæg sammesteds med titlen Abbas, Hamas, Dahlan, and the PA should go to hell:
The Palestinian Authority (PA) is censoring all the reports that explains the real reasons behind the war in Gaza and West Bank.

It is not a secret now that since the elections of Hamas, the Americans, Israel EU and Arab states are supporting only Fatah with arms, money and all kind of aid to keep them in power. In fact we now know that the American military coordinator and representative at the Palestinian military, the war criminal General Keith Dayton will continue his work for "training the Palestinian forces" (Fatah only) in the West Bank.

What the media is not telling us is that the continued failings of the PA government and bloody disaster which the radical militants of Hamas brought upon the lives of all Palestinians was the last nail in the coffin of the PA government, Abbas as President and Hamas as elected party.
(...)
What Palestinians are seeking is a powerful military force to be stationed in all Palestinian cities, to protect them from the daily attacks by Israelis, the corrupt PA and the various Palestinian militant groups, including Hamas and Fatah militias. The US is not invited to take part in this action because they are not trusted by Palestinians.
